Hydraulics for tipping Part 2

In the previous episode, we talked about the basics of single-circuit hydraulics for tipping and gear pumps. Today, we will take a closer look at the power take-off (PTO) and control valves. The power take-off (PTO) is a key component of the system. Care must be taken to match the gearbox type, torque selection and PTO ratio to ensure optimum pump speed and oil flow. It is also important to have the correct PTO position in relation to the gearbox (rear or side mounting) and to choose the right type of PTO, e.g. cube or offset, which affects the pump drive ratio. An offset PTO usually multiplies the rpm so the pump can run at a higher rpm and a cube PTO transfers the output rpm from the gearbox. Also remember the PTO sensor, which is connected to the computer and indicates the PTO's operating status - on - off. In some configurations you won't work without this sensor. Another important component is the tipping control valve. This valve must limit the oil pressure in the system and protect the actuator. The valve setting must be adequate to the operating pressure of the actuator. The correct positioning of the valve is also important, which affects the routing of the hydraulic lines and avoids the difficulty of limiting the bending radius of the lines. The maximum oil flow through the valve is also important. It should be selected in such a way that it does not suppress the oil in the system, i.e. do not cause back pressure. This is a very messy phenomenon and can damage the hydraulics. The flow of the valve should simply be greater than the oil flow the pump is supplying. When selecting a pneumatic control, look at what it is supposed to be responsible for. Do you want to control only the tipping valve, i.e. up, down and neutral positions? Do you have additional functions such as PTO on/off or additional control of the hydraulic sides? The pneumatic control can automatically return to neutral when tipping, which is also a matter of specification and choice. You can also choose the type of signalling of the position of the control joystick, either an LED or an audible signal. If I have convinced you and been helpful, I invite you to visit www.trucksconcept.com, where you will find components from the renowned Italian manufacturer OMFB, they are a great choice. OMFB offers all original parts from its factories in the kit, rather than branding components from other manufacturers and offering „assemblies” like most companies. OMFB is the manufacturer of all components, which is their strength and quality. See you in the next episode! stay with me, Asia Pieprzyca
